(see gauge notes below)\u003cbr\u003e8ply measures approximately 200cm x 50cm\u003cbr\u003e4ply measures approximately 180cm x 40xm \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTECHNIQUES\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis pattern involves, knit, purl, simple increases and decreases, yarn overs, cast on and cast off.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will be working with two colours, knit with one colour for two rows, then the other colour for two and repeat. I do nothing special when I change over the yarns, I am just consistent. Carry the yarn up the side, crossing the yarns in the same way when changing, I pass the exiting yarn over the entering yarn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eYARN\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eYou can use most yarns; this will just affect the size of the finished project. Shadow knitting depends on height difference; therefore, I would not recommend anything under 4ply. Fibre content is not important, though fluffy yarns may detract from the effect. For guidance, please see the following:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKnit in 8ply, at a tension of 23 stitches to 10 x 10 cm, stockinette stitch.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYarn A - 560m, Yarn B - 560m  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUsually in 8ply, this will require 3 x 100g skeins of each colour, 6 skeins in total\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you were to use a 4ply will require 2 x 100g skeins of each colour, 4 skeins in total\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease ensure you check lengths of the yarn used as the above is only a guide. Individual tensions will also alter the amount of yarn required. All quantities are approximate as there are many factors that impact.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHelp on picking colours are included in the pattern instructions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMaterials\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1) Knitting needles!!!! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYes, that is it, apart from some scissors and a needle to weave in ends. I use a circular knitting needle, so you do not have to support the weight when your project gets bigger.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNeedle size. As a rule, because definition is important, I go down one needle size, to the one recommended for the yarn. This of course will depend on your personal tension. For example, most 8ply yarns recommend a 4mm needle. We used a 3.75mm needle.
