Skein Machine is an Australian yarn and knitwear business based in EDEN HILLS, South Australia. Founded in 2019 by Mark "Jamo" Jamieson and his partner Matt, we specialise in premium hand-dyed yarns, knitting and crochet accessories, and original knitwear designs — all created with genuine care, creativity, and a whole lot of love for the craft.
OUR STORY
Jamo picked up his first pair of knitting needles in June 2018 during a period of illness — determined to keep creating even when forced to slow down. Taught by a close friend and mentor, he was immediately hooked. What began as a personal obsession quickly became a shared passion when he met Matt in early 2019. Matt saw the potential, encouraged Jamo to turn his talent into a business, and together they launched Jamo Designs in September 2019, selling predominantly online and through markets. In 2024 we opened a bricks and mortar yarn store Skein Machine, which is now the home for The House Dye yarn and Jamo Designs.
WHAT WE SELL
We sell premium hand-dyed yarn sourced and selected because we genuinely use it in our own projects. Every yarn in our range has been tested by us — if we wouldn't knit or crochet with it ourselves, we don't sell it. We also create original knitwear and crochet designs, and offer product samples at markets so you can see and feel the yarn's quality before you buy.

We believe you can tell when something is made with love — and that's our standard for everything we create. Our philosophy is simple: if we're not enjoying making it, we put it down. Every product we sell has been made with genuine enthusiasm for the craft. We're an Australian-owned small business, and we actively support other Australian businesses where we can. We mentor and support local emerging small business owners, providing advice and encouragement where possible. We also actively promote and encourage people to join local guilds and knit socials to provide extra support to each other and as a way to enhance and inspire the whole community.
