How to use the PatchMaker v3.0 tool to repair holes in clothes !

KNITPATCH V3.0

Visible mending doesn't have to be intimidating. The Knitpatch PatchMaker 3.0 Kit makes repairing clothes simple, beautiful, and accessible to everyone — no sewing experience required. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to use it step by step.

What's in the kit? The PatchMaker 3.0 is made from stainless steel and beech hardwood and includes a metal spring, 3 spools of cotton thread, a latch hook, a sharp needle, printed instructions with 15 pattern designs, and access to 10 video tutorials. Patches can be up to 2 × 2 inches (5.2 × 5.2 cm).

Step 1: Set Up Your PatchMaker

Lay your PatchMaker frame flat on a clean surface. Place the damaged area of your garment underneath the frame, positioning it so the hole or worn area sits in the centre of the frame. Secure the fabric by tightening the frame around it.

Step 2: Thread Your Yarn

Take one of the cotton thread spools included in your kit and thread it through the hooks on the top of the frame. Work across all 16 hooks for a full-size patch, or use fewer hooks for a smaller patch. Keep the thread taut but not too tight.

Step 3: Weave Your Patch

Using the latch hook, begin weaving your thread back and forth across the frame in your chosen pattern. The printed instructions include 15 designs to choose from — start simple with a basic weave if you're a beginner. Work row by row until your patch is complete.

Step 4: Remove and Sew On

Once your patch is woven, carefully remove it from the frame. Position it over the damaged area of your garment and sew it in place using the needle included in the kit. Turn the garment inside out and trim any excess threads.

Tips for Beginners

  •  Start with slightly thicker, softer fabrics like knitwear — they're easier to work with and give you better control.
  •  Use contrasting thread colours to make your mending a feature, not a fix.
  •  Watch the 10 included video tutorials if you get stuck — they're a great visual reference.
