VISIBLE MENDING WORKSHOP (16yo+)

Bring along a garment (or multiple) that need/s repair (eg. socks, shirt, jeans or jumper etc...).  Mary will provide instruction on sewing/mending techniques guiding you through the process.  Bring along some suitable yarn/fabric that you think would be suitable to use as a patch/thread maybe a few options if you have access to fabric and yarn scraps. You will learn the basic techniques using scrap fabric, until you are confident that you are ready to do some mending on a real project.

MARY HEATH )

Mary has been mending since her mum taught her to darn a sock in primary school. She is usually wearing more than one mended garment. Together with friends, Mary has hosted #stitchitdontditchit and World Mend in Public Day in Adelaide. She is a regular host of the mending corner at South Australian Grassroots Ecosystem. She is a climate activist who believes that mending can be beautiful as well as practical; whimsical as well as functional. And that it has a role to play in mending relationships broken by fast fashion: with our own clothing; with earth’s ecosystems and with human rights.

(refreshments provided, please let us know in advance if you have any allergies or dietary requirements).

There are also government compliance checks WWCC required for trainers who do work with children, only trainers who have valid WWCC checks are permitted to teach children under the age of 18 years.).
